How does CleanX work?

CleanX scans the areas of your device that you allow it to access, organizes potential cleanup items into categories, and lets you review the results before confirming an action.

CleanX first asks for access to the content required for the feature you want to use. It then scans the available content and groups the results into categories.

Depending on the category, CleanX may identify:

  • Exact duplicate items

  • Similar or near-matching items

  • Screenshots

  • Large videos

  • Other items that may be taking up storage space

The results are suggestions. CleanX does not automatically decide what should be deleted.

You can open a category or group, review the suggested items, and change the selection before confirming a cleanup action.

How to use CleanX

  1. Open CleanX and complete onboarding if prompted.

  2. Allow the requested access.

  3. Wait for the scan to finish.

  4. Open a category or group.

  5. Review the suggested items.

  6. Keep or deselect anything you want to preserve.

  7. Confirm deletion or compression.

  8. Empty Recently Deleted or Trash if you need to free up the space immediately.

Why can scan results change?

Scan results may change when your media library changes, the app refreshes its cache, or a new scan detects additional items.

Because of this, a second scan may show different results from the first scan.

Why isn't my storage freed up immediately?

After deleting items, your device may need some time to refresh its storage calculation.

On some devices, deleted media may also remain in Recently Deleted or Trash. These items may continue to use storage until they are permanently removed.

Scan requirements

CleanX is available on iOS and Android.

For some scans, you may need to keep the app open until the scan is complete. The permissions you grant and the available storage on your device can also affect the scan results.
